Now the election is over, we can move away from Latte and back to cakeworld.

It is my pleasure to tell you all that IS Cafe in Wintergarden level 1 has free wifi and are nicely away from traffic noise. Their cakes look good but are on the $$$ price, this little baby being $5.95 and measuring 4cm high, 10cm diameter.

However, it was delicious. Their coffee is moderate. No Ara Beeka for sure. Such a long time before it arrived too.

Gloria Jean’s Coffees has partnered with the international non-profit conservation organisation the Rainforest Alliance to launch its new Rainforest Alliance CertifiedTM Single Origin Nicaraguan whole bean coffee

I take my strong (double shot) stance on environmental concerns from the security of this well lit, corporate citizenship minded franchise.

Soy latte at Pane e Vino, city
Originally uploaded by lightsight.
By a quirk of fate, I had coffee with three of my exes today.

Pane e Vino's soy latte is unremarkable fare aside from the huge head of froth.

Passing traffic makes this a not quite desirable location to meet.

Latte at Jeremy's

Jeremy's has grown from a tiny strip cafe to a double sized red room. On one wall is an impressive frieze of red ceramic dots. Elegant cakes. Lunch foods. The Jo (a vanilla coffee). This is heaven.

There is no companion, but having purchased a wine bottle foil cutter and a Garlic Card, I'm as latte left as they come. I even skipped a solidarity march to be here, alone with my laptop.

The free shortbread is a nice touch. They don't have soy, btw, what is cafe culture coming to?

Soy latte at Ugees
Originally uploaded by lightsight.
I can't remember the last time I shelled out dollars for DrJon so it must be my turn soon.

We took shelter at Ugees again and I was delighted to find that they are hosting an exhibition of works by Georg and George. I am a big fan of Mr Salami...

Today's sit down was barely half an hour, but in that time we covered the topic of Man-Child. I did not make a very good list of what makes a Man-Child, but I told him that I had tallied up my list of exes and gladly there are less man-childs in it than men.

I doubt that I am actually attracted to man-childs. I like to think that I am wearing wool goggles when I begin to date and just either deny, or fail to notice until much later.

There is one person who I am not really sure whether to categorize as a man-child or not.

As I said to the good doctor, he was not one of the man-childs, and he was given this information as he had lent me his ear. However, the buck stops here. I know an awful lot of my exes read my LJ, and I will not be moved to tell any of the remaining exes where they scored in the man-child list.

Today's latte was not particularly left. I apologise, but I am redeemed by the fact that I supply the official portraiture photos for M- who will be covering the election lead up on Crikey.

Ugees soy latte

Ugees... Well, it's been a good favourite in West End. Nice little space, art hanging, locals, unpretentious, coffee only (puritans) but honestly, I can't really deal with their coffee. This is the soy latte and I'd hate to ask for a double shot. You can see the coffee streaks running down the sides.

I was with me mate [info]drjon and we talked relationships. Specifically, why some people may set their RSVP profile as "looking for friends" and if there is scope for subterfuge. Also talked about people who depart when you are dating someone new, or, if they feel they are better than your new partner, hang around to gloat about how you could do better (with them).

Luxe
Originally uploaded by lightsight.
After tracking down Graydon Gallery and seeing wonderful, iridescent leather masks by Michael Taylor [sorry, they were excellent, but are now over], I gave a call to New Farmites and tracked down pheno for a drink.

He suggested Luxe, but I was unsure that it would be a suitable late lunch venue. Indeed, there was only tapas, and I was served some tasty bacon and prawn rolls but also a sodium heavy bread with mushroom and aioli dish.

The latte was passable and functional. It wet the palette but failed to excite or be photogenic.

If we talk in terms relief efforts, this would be the wire cage outside Woolworths asking for donations of pet food for the local pound.

Discount card - yes, buy 6 get one free.
Joys - get bonus chocolate coffee beans.
Taste - ok, I was cheating as this is not coffee, but this is my
favourite drink there, so I couldn't break with tradition just for a
stupid blog post. Look at the lovely head on that latte though!

So I came here with J and we made many connections, or joined the dots.. whatever it should be called. Filled in each other's picture. We'd come after browsing some fine art at the Circle Gallery, where the most wonderful Manuel Santiago was having his last day. J had a headache, but it was gone after his cake!

Countdown

I'm blogging lattes until the election.

I freely admit I am of the latte left. I am a keyboard warrior. I have my Workers Rights wristband, but don't source my goods from justice products. I drink any old coffee and don't demand fair trade.

Deep in the Internerd, when I TYPE IN CAPS, does anybody hear me?

My cup is a soy latte. I'm easy on my time, a short black would never last me. I've never had it hard, so I take the milk to ease that bitter taste.

I'm a non practising activist. I'm one of the reasons JWH is still in power, regardless of my voting habits.

Coffee and Chocolate is an unimaginatively named cafe at the top of Queen's Plaza in the mall in Brisbane. They boast a fine array of handmade chocolates, including bombs (eg cherry bomb, mango bomb, irish cream bomb) which is a tall dome shaped chocolate shell filled with runny, delicious centres.

Prepare to arrive waving dollars, as I spent $11 on this cupcake and a Nudie fruit juice. A smaller and cuter cupcake was available for $4.95 each.

It is a very popular spot, however, very noisy as essentially 3 storeys of shopping's ambient sounds filter their way through the atrium to this cafe.

Pedro's, West End
Pedro's at West End is my new favourite place to be. They are partially cafe and partially jazz music shop. Outside is a comfortable area where they have strung a wide shade cloth and put excellent retro black and white floral couches. The tables are smooth unvarnished timber, which I love to touch. A small rock garden with cute pots of plants. A big tree with crows nibbling on bread sticks. A retreat!!! The owner is affable.

I had some homemade macadamic shortbread. $2 a piece. A chai latte. He opens til 8pm, so please come in and support this guy. I want to be able to keep coming here after work.

I just so wish there were more shops like this in Brisbane. Handmade unique chocolates with interesting centres. *sigh*

Koko Black is also a cafe. Delicious!

OMG.... this has been my BEST pasta meal in years. Seriously!!!

It was in a tomato base with chorizo, king prawns and chicken. The pasta was perfect. The cheese was great. The sauce amazing!

Cristos is not pronto. The manager is a character. The space is good, but not amazing. They have decorated with many chintzy seafaring artefacts and the room is a curious long curved shape which I suppose assists in intimacy/privacy in a relatively open space.

They do very good food if this is anything to go by, but unfortunately, there seem to be very little in the way of other drawcards. I haven't heard anyone mention that it was a good place to go to before, and I have not seen advertising, not been attracted by how it looked.

I only went in because it was one of the few things open late on a Monday night.

Would I buy it again: sure

It has a natural flavour unlike Pasito claiming to be passionfruit flavoured. It is slightly fizzy and quite refreshing. Sugar content is not bad. It's a very adult soft drink.

Compared to others, I would prefer Tiro blood orange or pink grapefruit to this one. But this rates above lemonade and Fanta.
Wander to the nice space at Satay Hut. It's ambient, comfortable and good for photography.

They have lunch time specials for $9.90, of which this is the salt and pepper calamari salad.

Satay Hut is on Grey Street.

This is the new cafe at the end of Montague Road, West End. It makes some GREAT coffee!!! There are sweets from Gerbinos and they have some turkish bread sangers. It's a great location and the staff are wonderful.

I had a soy latte and a marzipan biscuit.

La Dolce Vita is one of the cafes under the Eiffel Tower in Milton.

Well... what a CAKETASTROPHE!!! They don't own or operate a cake cabinet. Instead, you can choose some things from a dessert menu, which featured a paltry selection of less than 10.

This New York Cheesecake, although divine in texture, was simply presented and certainly not possessed of "OOOOOOOOOOHHH" factor. It set us back $9.90 as well.

Certainly you are not missing much by not hitting the cafe strip in Milton. So many more cafe precincts in Brisbane do the job better. Take your ten bucks to Gerbinos in the valley, or even some of the newly opened fancy cafs of Chermside and Toombul.
